Chelsea fan writer Ross Mooring shared his insights in an exchange prompted by questions from Manchester United contributor Dale O’Donnell. The initial query addressed whether Enzo Maresca would need to undertake additional preparation for Manchester United, given Erik ten Hag’s recent sacking. Mooring stated his belief that while Maresca would likely analyze the victory against Leicester and Ruud van Nistelrooy’s previous managerial performances, the Italian coach remains focused on establishing his distinct playing style at the club. A further concern for Maresca is Chelsea’s defensive record, having secured only four clean sheets this season and none in their last seven matches, even with some comparatively straightforward fixtures in European and domestic competitions. Regarding Jadon Sancho’s performance at Chelsea, Mooring observed that Sancho had made a promising start, providing assists in his initial three appearances and contributing a unique dynamic on the left flank that other players at the club do not. Nevertheless, he was substituted at half-time during the loss to Liverpool and has not played since, partly due to illness. Irrespective of his ineligibility to play against his parent club, Mooring anticipated Pedro Neto would begin on the left wing, with Mykhailo Mudryk serving as the alternative. When asked about Chelsea’s primary strengths ahead of the match at Old Trafford, Mooring responded that while it might appear overly simplistic to state “Cole Palmer,” it accurately reflects the situation. He noted that since his signing on deadline day last year, Palmer has performed with a style reminiscent of club legends Eden Hazard and Gianfranco Zola, and he surpassed both players’ goal tallies in a blue shirt last season. While Moises Caicedo and Nicolas Jackson have demonstrated increased composure this season, and Englishmen Noni Madueke and Levi Colwill have also shown improvement, Mooring highlighted Palmer as the player expected to consistently engage two or three Manchester United players simultaneously on Sunday.
