An individual has been apprehended in connection with “disgusting” damage inflicted upon memorials dedicated to victims of the Manchester Arena attack. Police officers responded to calls reporting a man causing damage to property near the AO car park and Manchester Victoria railway station at approximately 15:40 GMT on Sunday, according to Greater Manchester Police (GMP). The 20-year-old male was taken into custody on suspicion of criminal damage and burglary, and he is currently being held for interrogation. “Criminal damage and behaviour that disrupts the lives of people going about their daily business is never acceptable,” stated Detective Superintendent Sarah Harris. In addition to the harm caused to the tributes honoring the 22 individuals killed in the May 2017 bombing, reports also included instances of broken glass and a traffic cone. The affected items were later cleared away, and the area was respectfully tidied, GMP confirmed. The police force indicated that family members of the arena attack victims had been informed about the occurrence. “The fact that this incident involved damage to tributes to victims of the arena attack is particularly disgusting, and is something that we have zero tolerance for,” Detective Superintendent Harris commented. “I want to reassure the public that we are working hard to establish the circumstances, and I am glad a quick arrest was made. Authorities stated they were not seeking any other individuals in relation to the incident. Detective Superintendent Harris mentioned that inquiries are ongoing and urged anyone who observed anything or possesses information pertinent to the investigation to contact the force.
