American Olympic bronze medallist Ilona Maher has signed with Bristol Bears for the remainder of the Premiership Women’s Rugby season. The 28-year-old athlete holds the distinction of being the most followed Rugby Union player globally on social media, boasting 4.5 million followers on Instagram and 3.2 million on TikTok. “Additions like Ilona Maher prove how good this PWR league is,” commented Scarratt, who plays for Loughborough Lightning. Scarratt’s team is scheduled to play against the Bears on 1 February, potentially pitting her against Maher. Following Maher’s signing, the derby match between Bristol and Gloucester has been relocated to a larger stadium to accommodate the increased ticket demand.
