Swansea City and Wales midfielder Ollie Cooper will be out of action for three months due to a stress fracture in his foot. Cooper, who has made 100 senior appearances for Swansea since progressing through the club’s academy, faces an extended period on the sidelines. The 24-year-old has been a consistent presence for Swansea throughout the current season and has also distinguished himself within Craig Bellamy’s revamped Wales squad. However, a recent scan has confirmed the injury, meaning he will be unavailable until 2025. Consequently, Cooper will be unable to participate in Wales’ upcoming Nations League fixtures against Turkey and Iceland this month. His absence will also extend to a considerable portion of the Championship season. This injury represents a significant setback for Swansea, particularly as Cooper had regained his form under head coach Luke Williams this season, following periods of struggle during the previous campaign. Swansea head coach Williams commented on the situation, stating: “It’s very bad news, very disappointing for Ollie and for us. He is a very talented player and he’s had a fantastic opening to the season. It’s difficult to understand where it came from because there wasn’t really a moment or too many signals. But we need to support him to get back into training as quickly as he can.” This injury to Cooper marks the second significant setback for Swansea within a two-week period, following the ruling out of South Korea international Eom Ji-Sung for six weeks last month due to a knee issue. Prior to this injury, Cooper had participated in all 12 of Swansea’s league matches this season, missing only this weekend’s victory against Oxford United. As a product of the Swansea academy, he has also appeared in all four of Craig Bellamy’s matches for Wales to date.
