Retired footballer Joey Barton has been formally accused in connection with allegations pertaining to social media posts. Mr. Barton, aged 41, is facing two counts of sending malicious communications. These charges relate to BBC presenter Jeremy Vine and former England footballer Lucy Ward. Cheshire Police stated that Mr. Barton, who originates from Huyton, Merseyside, but now resides in Widnes, Cheshire, is scheduled to appear in a magistrates’ court on a date yet to be determined. The midfielder’s playing career included spells at clubs such as Manchester City, Newcastle United, Queens Park Rangers, Burnley, and Rangers. Following his retirement as a player, he transitioned into football management. His most recent managerial position was with Bristol Rovers, from which he was dismissed in October 2023 after nearly three years in charge.
