A week-long police operation resulted in the apprehension of 28 individuals and the confiscation of illicit drugs estimated to be worth over £310,000 on the street. Essex Police conducted these operations as part of its most recent County Lines Intensification Week, specifically aimed at disrupting drug dealing activities. Among the efforts was the detection of cannabis cultivation in Tilbury, which had the potential to produce drugs with a street value exceeding £300,000. Detective Chief Inspector Neal Miller stated: “We are creating a hostile environment for dealers and sending a very strong message.” The police force executed warrants in Chelmsford and London, leading to five arrests after an investigation into drug supply networks. According to the force, one individual attempted to evade capture by jumping from a first-floor window while dressed in only his underwear. This man was sought for recall to prison. In total, £3,000 in cash was confiscated from individuals suspected of drug dealing and from properties associated with such activities. Furthermore, officers provided protection to 38 individuals, comprising eight girls and ten boys who are minors. Visits were made to six locations identified as being connected to “cuckooing,” and officers engaged with hotel personnel and taxi drivers to enhance awareness regarding indicators of child exploitation. Throughout the week, which commenced on November 25, arrests for drug-related offenses were also carried out in Southend, Basildon, Waltham Abbey, and Grays. Detective Chief Inspector Miller commented: “The youngsters who are lured into this life think it’s going to be bags full of cash.” He added: “They have no control over where they go and when – they don’t keep any of the money and are at the risk of becoming victims of serious violence.”
