Callum McGregor is set to captain Celtic against Aberdeen at Hampden on Saturday. The Celtic captain, 31-year-old midfielder, maintains that Aberdeen “deserve” their current position this season. He affirmed that his team will approach Saturday’s Premier Sports Cup semi-final with the “utmost respect,” noting that the Dons are level on points with the Scottish Premiership leaders after 10 games. McGregor foresees a difficult encounter at Hampden, especially after their 2-2 draw in the league earlier this season. McGregor offered his perspective on Aberdeen’s performance, stating: “When you watch them, they’re really well organised, they’ve got a really good idea of what they’re trying to do and then what the wins do is they just gather belief and as soon as that happens then momentum can be such a big thing in football.” He further explained that Aberdeen have obviously done a lot of good work over the summer and they’ve carried that into the games, creating what he described as a snowball effect. McGregor affirmed that they are where they are and they deserve to be there, emphasizing that Celtic must treat everyone with the utmost respect and bring their level to the game. He concluded by stating his strong impression of them and anticipating another tough game.
