Councillors have called for a management review of a motorway junction to address significant traffic congestion. The Worcester Liberal Democrats stated that persistent queues around the Sixways Roundabout, located at junction six of the M5, were “impacting residents’ quality of life” and causing “significant delays.” They urged Highways England and Worcestershire County Council to implement measures and identify both short-term and long-term solutions for the traffic issues. Fiona McKenzie of Highways England confirmed that the agency was planning to “commission a signalling a review” with the aim of helping to “reduce delays and improve queuing at the junction.” Councillor Sarah Murray remarked that the congestion surrounding junction six had become a “daily headache for local commuters and residents.” She added, “The traffic backing up along Berkeley Way is not only inconvenient but has started to affect local businesses and create safety concerns for pedestrians and cyclists.” Councillor John Rudge asserted that enhancing traffic flow around the junction must be made “a priority for the council.” Highways England indicated that it was “always looking at ways to improve traffic flows.” Worcestershire County Council has been contacted for comment regarding the situation.
