On Christmas Day, hundreds of resilient swimmers participated in charitable festive swims across Suffolk, enduring the extremely cold temperatures of the North Sea. Participants, some dressed in fancy costumes, plunged into the waters off the coasts of Felixstowe and Lowestoft. The Felixstowe swim, marking its 20th anniversary, was organized to support St Elizabeth Hospice, with participants rushing into the sea before returning home for their Christmas turkey meals. Concurrently, Everyone Active’s Lowestoft swim observed its 45th anniversary, continuing its objective to generate thousands of pounds for various local charitable organizations. Donna Taylor, the general manager for Everyone Active at Waterlane Leisure Centre in Lowestoft, commented: “It was fantastic to play our part in this amazing community event, which raises money for brilliant charitable causes as well as getting people of all ages active.” She added, “There was a lovely, friendly atmosphere generated by the participants and those who came down to support them, and our congratulations go to everyone who took part.” James Fox-Golding, representing St Elizabeth Hospice, located in Ipswich, stated: “A massive well done and thank you to all our incredible dippers who take part in this year’s Christmas Day Dip – which saw a record number of dippers braving the chill for the hospice.” In another part of the county, Southwold similarly organized a Christmas Day swim, where every participant was awarded a medal. This particular event has accumulated over £38,000 for local charities since 2012.
