The individual who triumphed in this year’s Great British Bake Off has characterized the experience as a “dream” that has transformed her life. Georgie Grasso, 34, a nurse based in Carmarthen, became the program’s inaugural Welsh victor following a rigorous 10-week contest against 11 other participants. “I couldn’t believe I was the first Welsh person to get to the final – let alone win,” she said. “It certainly adds to the achievement of not just winning the whole show, but a win for Wales too. Just a dream.” Georgie conveyed to BBC Cymru Fyw, “It was something I never imagined I could achieve, for someone who’s so self doubting,” adding, “I always wanted to apply but thought my baking was too amateur… I’m so incredibly proud of myself and I don’t say that often.” She indicated that the filming for the series concluded in July and that she was required to maintain secrecy about the outcome until November. She remarked, “It was such exiting news, there was a couple of times where I wanted to announce it to my family. But I really wanted to have everyone together to watch the final so I kept that in mind and managed to get through the months of secrecy,”. Subsequent to her success, she reported receiving substantial online encouragement, particularly for her openness about living with ADHD. “The love and well wishes have been incredible and I’m so proud to have been an advocate for people with ADHD.” Regarding her culinary preparations for Christmas, one of the nation’s top amateur bakers plans to prepare a goose dinner for approximately 10-12 individuals this year. “As well as that, I always do a turkey so I can make pie and baguettes in the days after Christmas,” Georgie explained. For dessert, she mentioned consistently making “her favourite” cranberry frangipane, but noted that the “children aren’t that keen so will make chocolate profiteroles filled with cream for them”. She concluded, “I don’t mind cooking Christmas Day, it’s part of the joy.”
