A railway route has resumed operations subsequent to its tracks being inundated due to Storm Bert. Services operated by Northern, connecting Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria and Lancaster, had been anticipated to remain suspended until Friday because of issues identified close to Ulverston. Nevertheless, Network Rail reported that its personnel removed over 240 tonnes of debris from the railway on Monday, enabling the resumption of service, albeit with trains currently traveling at 20mph, half their standard speed of 40mph. Network Rail stated that permanent repairs would be implemented at the earliest opportunity. Last week, engineers were present at the Ulverston location to control the flow of a stream that had diverted onto the railway track; however, on Saturday, the volume of melting snow exceeded the capacity of the watercourse, resulting in a flood.
