An incident involving a fairground ride described as having “failed and crashed” in Birmingham city centre resulted in two women being transported to the hospital. West Midlands Fire Service stated that the ride had “dropped to ground level whilst in operation” in Centenary Square. Photographs captured by the BBC depict wires from a minimum of two gondolas on the 55m tall City Flyer ride intertwined. Emergency services responded to the location at 19:29 GMT on Thursday. West Midlands Ambulance Service reported that the two women’s injuries were not believed to be severe, but they were transported to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital. Additionally, 11 other individuals received assessment and were subsequently released at the site. West Midlands Police established a cordon spanning the area between the ice rink, the library, and the Rep theatre, advising the public to stay away. A witness present at the scene informed the BBC that he observed “girls who appeared to be injured” departing the vicinity, including “one girl who seemed to have her face cut”. Lilly Nitsch, 18, from Leamington Spa, who was present at the scene, conveyed to the BBC her shock regarding the event. She stated, “That’s one of my favourite rides growing up. It makes me think of of the times you’ve been on rides like that. It makes me feel lucky.” The City Flyer ride, operated by funfair suppliers Danter Attractions, is characterized as “one of the tallest rides around”. Amelie Huet, 18, was with friends at a nearby ice skate bar when the incident occurred. She informed the BBC that she went onto the balcony after hearing sirens and observed ambulances, police cars, and fire engines. She quoted, “Someone told us the structure dropped and someone fell out.” Post navigation Two Men Imprisoned for Concealing Murders of Teenagers Max Dixon and Mason Rist Arson Attack on West Belfast 5G Mast Extinguished
