Manchester City experienced concerning moments on Thursday when captain Alex Greenwood was removed from the field on a stretcher due to what appeared to be a serious knee injury during the first half of their Champions League match against St Polten. The England international immediately went to the ground and signaled for medical attention following an awkward challenge with Melanie Brunnthaler. Greenwood was observed covering her face as she was carried off at Joie Stadium. Following the game, manager Gareth Taylor stated he did not yet know the full extent of Greenwood’s injury. “Not at this stage,” he said. “I turned away because I was frustrated we lost the ball in those areas. It was our own doing. We will just have to assess like with all the many other injuries we have got.” Taylor further elaborated on the team’s immediate schedule and the significance of Greenwood’s departure from the game: “We have two games to get through [before the winter break], we will check in on Alex and see how she is but it takes a lot for Alex to come off.” Addressing the potential impact if Greenwood’s injury proves serious, Taylor acknowledged the ongoing challenge of player absences: “Huge loss. We seem to be losing big players. Miedema, Lauren Hemp, Layzell, Bunny Shaw.” He added: “If it’s Alex it is going to make it really difficult for us. But the girls are good in that sense. The recovery levels are good and hopefully now once we get this break we have a little bit of time and don’t miss these players for too long.” Post navigation O’Sullivan to Clash with Higgins in Masters Opener Rangers Secure 1-0 Victory Over St Johnstone: Match Analysis
