Paulo Bernardo stated that Celtic’s recent League Cup triumph has intensified the team’s desire to secure additional trophies throughout the current season. The team, managed by Brendan Rodgers, secured the initial trophy of the season on Sunday. This occurred after they defeated Rangers 5-4 in a penalty shootout, concluding a 3-3 draw at Hampden. As the reigning champions, they currently hold a significant lead in the Premiership, being nine points ahead of Aberdeen, who are in second place. Furthermore, they are positioned to advance to the Champions League play-offs and will also defend the Scottish Cup in the upcoming year. Portuguese midfielder Bernardo conveyed to Celtic TV, “It was the first of the season, we want more.” He added, “We are focused on the next game. We won the trophy two days ago, so it gives us a lot of confidence for the next months.” Bernardo attributed Celtic’s success in Sunday’s final to their winning mentality. He stated, “I think it’s down to our mentality. It was a very good victory because we never backed down. We fought until the end and we got the result in the penalties, so it was really important to us.” Bernardo remarked, “It was a really tough game. We had more ball and we had more shots on target [than Rangers]. We know we can play a little bit better football and we will try to do it in the next game.” He concluded, “But finals are about winning. We did it and we are very happy.”
