England batter Paige Scholfield, who holds three One Day International (ODI) and two Twenty20 (T20) caps, has been removed from the national T20 squad for the upcoming tour of South Africa due to an ankle injury. England’s team management reported that the 28-year-old sustained the injury during a training session on Tuesday. The team further stated, “Following further assessment, she will now return to the UK to begin her rehabilitation.” Scholfield’s initial inclusion in the T20 squad was considered a surprise, particularly given her selection over Alice Capsey, as England implemented roster adjustments following their group-stage elimination from the T20 World Cup in October. Her first appearances in both ODI and T20 formats occurred against Ireland in September, and she also played for the Oval Invincibles in The Hundred competition this year. Meanwhile, Capsey was recalled to the T20 squad on Monday, with the official reason cited as “due to a couple of minor injury concerns within the squad”. The English team is scheduled to play the initial match of the three-T20 series against South Africa this Sunday. The tour itinerary additionally comprises three One Day Internationals and a single four-day Test match.
