Individuals participating in a complimentary men-only exercise collective located in Berkshire have articulated the positive impact it has had on their physical and mental well-being. Those involved with the Reading F3 Nation group, which convenes at Thames Valley Business Park, reported that it has provided them with a feeling of belonging and a resource for support during challenging times. The organization’s objective is to establish compact fitness assemblies globally, designed to be conducted outdoors. Each workout concludes with a “circle of trust,” offering participants an opportunity to share openly and discuss their difficulties. This collective assists men aged 18 and older in attaining “the 3 F’s” – fitness, fellowship, and faith. Members congregate, exercise collectively, and engage in discussions concerning mental health. The inaugural F3 group in Berkshire is named “The Office,” and its members engage in “boot camp”-style physical training sessions starting at 06:00 every Tuesday and Thursday. Dan Winfield, 39, a leader within the group, stated that upon joining in 2022 in Cranleigh, Surrey, he had been “missing someone to work out with.” He noted that physical fitness was “the thing that brings most of us to it.” Winfield further commented, “But what I didn’t expect the thing that I found was the fellowship side, the community.” He added, “I know these men, they going to be here for me and I try and be there for them not just on the good days… but on the bad days as well.” Craig, a member originally from South Africa, mentioned that he was “really unfit” when he initially became involved. He reported, “Within six months, I’d lost over 20kg (44lbs).” Craig also observed, “Everybody just mucks in and helps each other.” He concluded, “I didn’t feel like I had a belonging but once I came into this group, I get a feel of belonging now.” James, another participant, indicated that his initial motivation for joining was to improve his physical condition. He stated, “But I found that the more I came, the more I was doing it for the man next to me.” James recounted, “I am lying in bed at 5:15, thinking ‘I don’t really wanna go. Oh, but they’re going to be there by themselves. I know I need to go.'” He further explained that several group members assisted with a fundraising initiative for his mother, benefiting Cancer Research. James reported, “We ended up with five or six men who had never met her… and we raised nearly just under £10,000.” He concluded, “So you can rely on people within F3 to get behind you and get behind other causes outside of just F3 as well.” Readers can find BBC Berkshire on Facebook, X (Twitter), or Instagram.
