Wicketkeeper-batter Seren Smale and seamer Ryana Macdonald-Gay have been brought into England’s squad currently in South Africa. Both players previously represented England at the Under-19 World Cup in 2023. Ms. Smale, aged 19, has been included in both the T20 and Test squads. She will serve as a back-up wicketkeeper for Amy Jones, replacing Bess Heath, who has gone back home due to a fractured thumb. Ms. Macdonald-Gay, 20, has been added solely for the Test match, scheduled from 15 to 18 December, which will conclude the multi-format series. While both athletes made their initial appearances for England during the white-ball series against Ireland in September, neither has yet earned a Test cap. Smale, who is Wales-born and plays for Lancashire, participated in two T20s, whereas Macdonald-Gay, representing Kent, played in two one-day internationals and one T20. England secured a four-wicket victory in the opening T20 match on Sunday. The multi-format series is structured with a three-match T20 series, followed by three One-Day Internationals, and then the Test match. The second T20 fixture is scheduled to be held in Benoni on Wednesday at 16:00 GMT.
