Police and the local council are responding to disruptive drivers who have been utilizing a section of a Derbyshire town as a “stunt track.” Erewash Borough Council reported instances of individuals described as “idiots” “roaring up and down” Chalons Way in Ilkeston and executing “doughnuts” at roundabouts. To address this, the council, in conjunction with Derbyshire Police, has put forward a proposal for a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO). This order would grant officers enhanced authority to issue on-the-spot fines and disperse groups. A public consultation regarding this proposal is scheduled to conclude on 1 January. Deputy council leader Becca Everett stated: “The PSPO gives the police and council officers additional powers to clamp down – not only on participants in the vehicles but spectators and those who organise such events.” Insp Matt Ladd, representing Erewash’s local policing unit, commented: “We know the impact this behaviour is having on our local communities, and we welcome the move by the council to launch this consultation. “We urge local residents and anyone impacted by this to show their support.” Post navigation Family asserts police inaction contributed to woman’s murder Man Dies After Assault in Dublin’s Finglas
