Erik ten Hag achieved a 54.6% win rate, which stands as the second highest among Manchester United managers since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, surpassed only by Jose Mourinho’s 58.3%. Following his dismissal on Monday, Erik ten Hag conveyed his desire for Manchester United supporters to experience “nothing but success, trophies and glory.” The 54-year-old manager’s tenure concluded after the 2-1 Premier League loss to West Ham last weekend. Manchester United has since named Sporting manager Ruben Amorim as the permanent replacement for the Dutchman. Ten Hag, who secured two trophies during his two seasons with United, extended his gratitude to the fans through a statement issued by his representatives, SEG. He stated, “Thank you for always being there for the club,” adding, “Whether it was at a game far away or a tough match at Old Trafford, your support has been unshakeable. The atmosphere at Old Trafford has always been electrifying, thanks to you.” He further expressed, “I also want to thank the staff in every department of the club for their unwavering support in good times and bad.” The former Ajax manager assumed his role in the summer of 2022. In his inaugural season, he ended the club’s six-year trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup and securing a third-place finish in the Premier League. Additionally, Ten Hag guided United to an FA Cup final triumph against rivals Manchester City in May, although the club concluded the league season in a disappointing eighth position. His dismissal occurred after a poor beginning to the 2024-25 campaign, with United sitting 14th after nine matches. Ten Hag remarked, “We won two trophies – achievements that I will cherish for the rest of my life.” He continued, “Of course my dream was to bring more trophies to the cabinet. Unfortunately, that dream has come to an end.” He concluded, “I wish all Manchester United fans nothing but success, trophies and glory. “Your support, and the warmth I received from everyone at the club, helped me feel at home. Thank you for this chapter in my life.” On Friday, United confirmed that Ruben Amorim, the 39-year-old Portuguese coach, will transfer to Old Trafford from Lisbon club Sporting on 11 November, under a contract extending until June 2027. Ruud van Nistelrooy, a former United striker who assumed interim management duties following Ten Hag’s sacking on Monday, is set to remain in his role for the club’s upcoming three matches.
