Blackburn Rovers’ head coach, John Eustace, conveyed his disappointment regarding the postponement of Saturday’s scheduled match against Portsmouth. The fixture, set to take place at Ewood Park, was called off due to a waterlogged pitch and stood as the sole Championship game affected by adverse weather conditions across the weekend. Speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire, Eustace stated, “We had a really good week’s training, the lads were really looking forward to the game.” He further elaborated on the situation at the stadium, adding, “Unfortunately there was a lot of water on the pitch when we got there at 10:30 (GMT) and the rain just wasn’t going to stop – everyone was really disappointed we couldn’t get the game on.” Following the announcement of the match’s cancellation, the Rovers squad conducted a training session at the club’s Brockhall training facility. This occurred after the team had not competed in a game since 9 November. Eustace commented on the subsequent training, stating, “We trained on the Saturday afternoon which was really important.” He also acknowledged the efforts of the stadium personnel, adding, “I think the effort of the ground staff all week has been sensational – they worked tirelessly to make sure that the boys were prepared properly.” His team is scheduled to play Middlesbrough on Wednesday.
