A man has passed away following an incident where a car plunged into the sea near the Isle of Wight. The vehicle, a Ford Mondeo, entered the water adjacent to Shore Road, Gurnard, close to the local sailing club, on Saturday just before 23:30 GMT. Police reported that the driver of the car, a man in his 40s from Ryde, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His family has been notified of the death. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has issued an appeal for witnesses, as officers are conducting inquiries “to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident”. Emergency services, including police, ambulance, fire, and coastguard units, were present at Gurnard beach throughout the night. The force confirmed that the man was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
