Bristol was allocated the third-largest portion of a multi-million-pound government initiative aimed at addressing homelessness. With 67 rough sleepers currently identified in the city, Bristol City Council obtained £217,000 to provide winter support, marking the largest allocation outside of London. This announcement occurred concurrently with Bristol-based charity 1625 organizing a sleep-out event to increase public awareness regarding homelessness. Lee Hosken, a rough sleeper in Bristol, stated: “If you’ve got no family or friends around you it’s really hard to survive being homeless in Bristol.” In comparison, Somerset Council reported 57 rough sleepers, while the government noted a 27% increase over the past year. The £230 million in funding originates from Labour’s initial government budget. Mr. Hosken informed the BBC: “It’s the first time I’ve ever been homeless and it’s the last time I’m gonna be homeless…” “You need at least three layers of clothing on, at least two sleeping bags around you and a quilt. “That’s what you need to at least keep warm during these cold nights.”” Julie Dempster, the founding director of BOSH, a Bristol homelessness charity, commented: “We know that numbers across the UK have increased. “We need more housing, we need more support before this spirals out of control and there are more deaths on our streets. That’s the bottom line.”” Post navigation Mozambique: High Court’s Election Confirmation Triggers Renewed Protests Donald Trump’s Government Control: Potential and Limitations
