Elderly residents and individuals with mobility challenges have been granted specific access to observe the Christmas light displays in a Guernsey town. According to the States of Guernsey, its traffic and highways departments have provided residents with the opportunity to drive through St Peter Port during “set times” throughout December. Individuals who are of pensionable age, or those transporting passengers of pensionable age, are permitted to drive along Smith Street, High Street, Le Pollet, Mill Street, and Mansell Street. The government further stated that drivers possessing a valid disability badge, or those with a passenger holding such a badge, are eligible for the same access. This access is effective on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday evenings, from 18:00 GMT to 22:00 GMT. The initiative commences on 1 December and concludes on 1 January 2025, with the exceptions of Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. The States of Guernsey issued a statement, clarifying: “While drivers are permitted to travel in either direction along Smith Street, they must only travel in the direction of the Town Church when driving along Le Pollet or the High Street.” They added, “They also must only travel down Mill and Mansell Street. All of the roads listed are subject to a 12mph (19km/h) speed limit. There is no need to obtain a permit for this.” Post navigation Alderney’s President William Tate Re-elected Kent Council Chief Visits Ukraine to Formalize Cooperation
