Mason Read, 18, along with Mr Kerry’s friends Harry Sullivan and Billy Hanshaw, are undertaking a 248-mile charity bike ride. This event is being held in memory of Mr Kerry, who was discovered deceased in a lift shaft in Turkey. The journey will commence in Pitsea, Essex, and conclude at Old Trafford in Manchester, the stadium of his preferred football team. Mr Kerry, a resident of Basildon, was found with fatal injuries on November 27 at the Trendy Lara Hotel in Antalya. Mr Read stated, “Being realistic this is going to be difficult for all three of us but I know that with persistence and determination we can do it.” Turkish police reported that Mr Kerry was under the influence of alcohol and fell from the first floor of the hotel. Conversely, his family expressed being “disgusted” with the Turkish investigation and maintained their belief that he had been murdered. Funds generated from the bike ride are designated to cover Mr Kerry’s funeral expenses and legal fees for his family, who are advocating for additional investigations. Mr Kerry’s brother commented, “Personally I’m ready to go. I love the idea of riding to Old Trafford due to how much Tyler loved the team (Manchester United) and loved watching them play.” He further added, “I’m extremely proud to be doing this for my brother and I know that he would be too.” Mr Sullivan, 22, explained that the ride serves as a final expression of gratitude to a friend who consistently supported others. He remarked, “He would go further than anyone to do something for his family and friends he cared for.” Mr Sullivan continued, “He had a heart of gold, he always helped people when he could.” He also stated, “It’s going to be a real challenge. I’ve not really cycled properly in two years, so it’s going to be a challenge but we’ll get there.” The three participants were scheduled to commence their journey at 04:00 GMT, anticipating the ride to exceed 24 hours in duration.
