Armed police units were dispatched following reports of gunshots in a Sheffield street. Firearms officers, with assistance from the National Police Air Service, were sent to Oxford Street, located in the Netherthorpe area of the city, at approximately 22:15 GMT on Tuesday. South Yorkshire Police stated that evidence consistent with a weapon’s discharge was discovered, though no injuries were reported. Det Insp Claire Moss remarked: “When a firearm is discharged, it rightly causes great concern for the community. We will not tolerate gun crime here in South Yorkshire.” She added: “Fortunately, no-one was harmed in the incident last night, but this is not always the case, which is why it is so important that we respond robustly to all reports of firearm discharges.” To hear highlights from South Yorkshire, access BBC Sounds; catch the latest episode of Look North; or share a story you believe warrants coverage.
