An individual responsible for the fatal stabbing of a 43-year-old man in what was described as a “brutal” assault has received a prison sentence of at least 17 years. Alan Robertson, aged 33, used a knife to wound Allan Doris in the heart outside Mr. Doris’s residence in the Kennishead district of south Glasgow on February 13, 2023. Mr. Doris succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter at the location, even though a friend attempted to assist him. A trial held at the High Court in Glasgow resulted in Robertson’s conviction for murder. Subsequent to the verdict, prosecutor Chris MacIntosh disclosed that Robertson possessed prior convictions for violent offenses and for carrying offensive weapons, such as an axe. During the imposition of Robertson’s life sentence, Judge Douglas Brown informed him that Mr. Doris was a “much loved father, son and brother.” The judge further stated: “The impact of his death had been devastating and their lives will never be the same again.” Judge Brown remarked: “This was a brutal knife attack directed on his chest.” He continued: “It must have been plainly obvious that it would likely result in his death.” The judge also noted: “The fact he died so quickly reflects the nature of the attack and the severe injuries inflicted.” Prior to the incident, both men, along with others, had been present in Robertson’s high-rise apartment on Kennishead Avenue before Mr. Doris departed. Robertson subsequently followed him outside. Allegations were made that Mr. Doris had assaulted Robertson. A witness subsequently characterized the assailant as “absolutely raging.” He returned to his apartment, then re-emerged forcefully, executing a “full force thrusting motion” with his arm towards the victim’s chest. Mr. Doris pleaded with a friend to summon an ambulance. Upon reaching the ground floor, he was discovered slumped on the elevator floor. During his testimony, Robertson asserted he was not angry on the day of the incident. He further stated he was unaware of how Mr. Doris sustained his injuries, recalling only seeing him “rolling about the floor.” In his concluding address to the jury, prosecutor Mr. MacIntosh contended that Robertson’s testimony “did not make sense” and had been “manufactured” for his benefit. Victoria Young, representing the defense, stated during the sentencing hearing that her client upholds the stance he took during the trial. Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved.
