Scottish Rugby announced a loss of £11.3 million for the financial year concluding on June 30, 2024. This occurred despite the organization achieving a record revenue of £73.9 million, which incorporated earnings from multiple Taylor Swift concerts held at Murrayfield Stadium, its home venue. Ticket sales reached £16.4 million, a decrease from £23.7 million. This reduction was attributed to the absence of autumn Tests during a World Cup year and only two home fixtures in the Six Nations tournament. The reported financial figures encompass an extra month, as the previous reporting period concluded at the end of May 2023. They also account for £1 million in exceptional items, described as “to cover restructuring and redundancy costs factored in”. The loss reported thirteen months prior stood at £10.5 million. The governing body’s statement forecasts a loss of approximately £3.8 million for the upcoming financial accounts. This is projected to be followed by achieving a break-even status in the 2025-26 financial year and a return to profitability in the subsequent year. Mark Dodson, the former chief executive, received £887,000. His successor, Alex Williamson, is scheduled to assume the role early next year. On July 1, when 35 positions were announced as being at risk of redundancy, Scottish Rugby had previously estimated losses of £10.6 million. Professor Lorne Crerar, chair of Scottish Rugby, stated, “There is cause for optimism going forward.” He added, “The Scottish Rugby Ltd board is making steady progress through its financial reset programme.” In June, US pop star Swift performed three record-breaking, sold-out concerts at Murrayfield. Oasis is scheduled to perform for two nights at the Edinburgh stadium in August of next year.
