At Tudor Grange Academy, the former school of England Lioness Laura Blindkilde Brown, students expressed that her debut for England served as an inspiration, motivating them to consider professional football careers. Blindkilde Brown, a footballer, attended Tudor Grange Academy prior to her professional engagements with Aston Villa and Manchester City. Students at the Worcester-based school reported feeling immense pride upon witnessing her performance against Switzerland on Saturday. Fourteen-year-old Ellie commented, “I think it’s really impressive how she can start from somewhere like this and be able to get to the point of playing for the Lionesses. I just think that’s amazing.” She added, “It is impressive she’s played for the Lionesses and Man City and it’s something to be very proud of.” Ellie further stated that Blindkilde Brown’s achievements and the encouragement from school personnel inspired her desire to pursue professional football. She elaborated, “We’ve got PE teachers who want girl’s football to progress and they do such a good job getting fixtures for us all the time and keep us playing to get us to the same level as the boys, because that’s what we deserve,”. In January, Blindkilde Brown transferred to Manchester City from Aston Villa for a fee of £200,000. This move followed her accumulation of over 50 senior appearances for her previous club before reaching the age of 21. Her first senior appearance for England occurred during the Lionesses’ 1-0 victory against Switzerland. Fifteen-year-old Maya remarked that observing Blindkilde Brown’s performance was “inspiring to everyone who comes here”. She continued, “To know that she played here and she would have played for a school team as well, you feel like you’re following her footsteps.” Maya concluded, “It’s great for her to reach the highest level of football, playing for her country, especially at such a young age.” Bethany Merriman, a teacher, recalled that during Blindkilde Brown’s earlier years at the school, she consistently demonstrated resolve and skill on the football field. Merriman stated, “At the time, we didn’t have a lot of girl’s football here so she was playing with the boys, and held her own.” She added, “Her technical ability, even at that age, just shone on the pitch.” Merriman emphasized, “It’s a massive dream for a lot of them. “Laura doing it shows that they’re no different, they could do that if they have that same work ethic and that same commitment to school and training.”” For further updates, follow BBC Hereford & Worcester on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram.
