A covered market has resumed some operations following damage sustained in a fire. On Tuesday evening, Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue service extinguished a fire at Milton Keynes Market, situated adjacent to Centre:MK. Organisers expressed on social media their anticipation of making further sections of the market accessible prior to the weekend. According to a spokesperson for Thames Valley Police, an electrical fault was identified as the origin of the fire. Maxine Herbert, a trader who has offered cosmetics and toiletries at the market for 27 years, characterized the fire as “devastation.” She stated, “We’re strong people, we’ve set up a little store and we will come back.” She added, “Hopefully our customers will still be here for us, we’ll survive, worse things happen to people and maybe we’re lucky.” Ms Herbert noted that sales during the Christmas period typically sustain their business throughout the remainder of the year. Several online fundraising initiatives have been established to assist traders in the period leading up to Christmas. A section of the market had previously been shut for 18 months following an earlier fire at the location in January 2010.
