Kitchen appliance manufacturer Aga has announced the closure of its retail outlet in Derby city centre. The AGA store, located on Queen Street, had recently marked 30 years of operation before permanently ceasing business on 16 November. In the company’s comprehensive accounts report for 2023, the firm’s directors stated: “The company has been negatively impacted by inflation in wages, logistics, energy, raw materials and component costs.” An AGA spokesperson confirmed on Monday that a “thorough review of our estate” led to the “very difficult decision to close our Derby store.” During its anniversary celebrations in October, store manager Laura Dann had commented: “While many high street stores have come and gone, we’ve remained committed to offering the highest level of service and expertise, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our loyal customers.” A month subsequent to these celebrations, the AGA Rangemaster firm, which is headquartered in Long Eaton, declared: “Many businesses in the home improvement sector have faced challenges in recent times.” It further added: “As the economic outlook improves, we remain committed to expanding our presence and firmly believe AGA has an enduring future in retail stores.”
