Kai Cenat has re-established the record for attracting the highest number of Twitch subscribers during a single stream. The 22-year-old American streamed continuously on the platform for 30 days, hosting several prominent guests including Snoop Dogg, Serena Williams, and Bill Nye. The total number of subscribers accumulated during that period reached 727,694, although Twitch has yet to officially confirm this final figure. This amount is more than double the previous record of 326,252, which was set by IronMouse in October, surpassing Kai’s own prior record from 2023. Snoop Dogg contacted Kai on the second day of the stream to discuss his upcoming album, and on the fourth day, he provided a tour of his Los Angeles home. Viewers were shown the rapper’s recording booth, alongside other luxurious features of the property such as a basketball court, an arcade room, and a casino. A few days later, the streamer participated in a video call with tennis legend Williams, during which she spoke about her favorite fast food meals. Williams also disclosed that her older sister Venus, a fellow Wimbledon champion, was a more effective tennis coach than herself, attributing this to Venus’s patience in teaching proper technique. Mr. Nye, a mechanical engineer recognized for hosting popular children’s television programs about science, joined Kai at his residence. They conducted various scientific experiments for the viewers, including a demonstration of how an ice cube melts more quickly on a metallic surface than on a plastic one. These continuous streams, colloquially termed “subathons,” are typically organized by streamers with the aim of increasing their subscriber count. This particular event was named Mafiathon 2, in tribute to Kai’s subscribers, whom he refers to as the ‘Kai Mafia’. Viewers purchase subscriptions to support their favorite streamers, with Twitch receiving a portion of the funds. In the UK, prices for subscriptions begin at £4.99. Kai, who already has over 15 million subscribers, has pledged that 20% of the money he earned from this marathon effort will be allocated to a school he is helping to construct in Nigeria. Subathons are intended to be uninterrupted, with guests substituting for Kai while he takes breaks for sleep. However, the event did not proceed entirely as planned, as the stream had to be paused after police were dispatched to his home following hoax reports of an emergency.
