Affordable housing developments are planned for brownfield sites situated in north Kent, supported by a government grant totaling £1.6 million. Gravesham Borough Council secured these funds from the Department for Levelling Up, specifically from its Brownfield Land Release Fund. The grant is designated for the redevelopment of Milton Place, situated in Gravesend. This initiative will serve as the inaugural project for the Gravesend Community Investment Partnership (GCIP), a collaborative entity formed by the council and the developer The Hill Group. The authority received a precise amount of £1,628,757 from the fund, and the GCIP is anticipated to submit a planning application for the Milton Place site shortly. Karina O’Malley, the cabinet member responsible for housing services, commented: “We have ambitious plans to speed up the delivery of affordable housing and to bring down the numbers of households on our housing register.“ She further added: “We are already delivering on our promise of building hundreds of new council-owned homes, with our development at Armoury Drive, Gravesham, which opened earlier this year, and work is getting underway on new homes at St Patrick’s Gardens.” Andy Hill, group chief executive of The Hill Group, stated: “Securing this government funding is a crucial step forward in making our plans a reality.”
