The arrival of baby Elizabeth Donald has established her family as one of Britain’s most distinctive. The infant is among a small number of children nationwide to have a living great-great-grandparent, specifically 94-year-old Margaret Waterhouse. Notably, Elizabeth’s birth brought together five generations of women who continue to spend time together close to their residences in Barnsley. Elizabeth’s mother, Chloe Renshaw, aged 24; grandmother, Jeannette Renshaw, aged 50; and great-grandmother, Jean Precious, aged 69, all reside in close proximity within the villages of Mapplewell, Staincross, and Darton. Chloe stated that Margaret was “absolutely smitten” with the new arrival. She further commented: “My mum gave my great-gran a call when she was born and she was really happy, and she cried.” Chloe continued, “We told her that her middle name was going to be Margaret and then there were more tears. We all spend a lot of time together and we make sure that we go out at least once a week and we take Nan-Nan out. I try to make sure that we see her at least once a week but I’d say that it’s about once a fortnight that we are all together.” Jeannette, Chloe’s mother, was present at Barnsley Hospital for the birth and remarked: “I’m not very often speechless, but it was absolutely amazing. I felt very privileged. The midwives were amazing, and Chloe’s partner Alex was too, he was absolutely brilliant”. Chloe, who previously worked as a care assistant, expressed that she could not have wished for a more manageable baby. “It’s everything that I have always wanted,” she stated, adding, “Now all I need is for me and her dad to get married!” In 1989, Augusta Bunge, an American woman, achieved the status of a great-great-great-great-grandmother at 109 years old, following the birth of a son to her great-great-great-grandchild. This family was recognized with a world record at the time for having seven generations alive simultaneously. A British record was established in 2017 by a family from Bradford, featuring six living generations, when 103-year-old Hilda Hanson became a great-great-great-grandmother to a baby boy.
