East Devon District Council officials have modified a “popular” £2 winter parking initiative, aiming to extend its advantages to a greater number of motorists. The scheme, valid until March 31, permits drivers to park for a maximum of four hours in most short-stay car parks, or until midnight in other car parks managed by East Devon District Council, all for a fee of £2. The council stated: “At short-stay car parks in Sidmouth, Exmouth and Honiton, a four-hour maximum stay for the £2 ticket will be introduced, and this ticket will not be transferable to other car parks. “As a result of this change, it is expected that more drivers will be able to make use of the best spaces, closer to the town centres.” The authority indicated that it had considered public input regarding the winter promotion from prior years, leading to modifications at several of the council’s most frequently used car parks. Short stay car parks with a four-hour limit: Councillor Sam Hawkins, who holds the finance portfolio for the council, commented: “I’m delighted that we’re continuing the popular £2 parking offer this winter. “The council has reviewed how car parks were used during the previous offers and this year’s changes will make it easier for residents and visitors to get a cheap parking space.” The authority further noted that Mamhead Slipway, Sideshore Car Park in Exmouth, Otter Estuary Nature Reserve in Budleigh Salterton, and Lyme Street in Axminster are excluded from the promotion because, while managed by the council, they are privately owned.
