Over 40 police officers and several members of the public have received commendations for their contributions to maintaining safety in Plymouth. A total of 42 Devon and Cornwall Police officers, two police staff members, eight members of the public, and one charity were honored at an event held on November 13. According to the force, those selected for recognition had either saved lives, protected communities, or worked to safeguard vulnerable individuals. Chief Superintendent Scott Bradley stated: “It showcases the unwavering commitment of our police officers and staff, as well as remarkable bravery and selflessness of community members who acted swiftly to help others”. Those present at the ceremony were told accounts of investigations that resulted in convictions and of individuals who administered crucial first aid under difficult conditions. Mr Bradley further expressed: “I’d like to extend my appreciation to everyone who has gone above and beyond in their duties to serve our community, as well as to local residents for their bravery in stepping forward to help those in need,”. Individuals honored included Jamie Redding, aged 17, for his intervention in an incident where a man was behaving inappropriately towards a young boy in a public toilet. PC Elizabeth Rowe also received recognition for performing life-saving CPR on a woman who had collapsed on the pavement along Royal Parade. Additionally, The Rapid Relief Team charity was acknowledged for its provision of catering support to emergency personnel during critical incidents and searches for missing persons.
