Following their victory on The Voice Kids, twin sisters Shanice and Andrea Nyandoro embarked on a path toward public recognition. The duo, who hail from Wigston in Leicestershire, secured first place in the seventh season of the ITV talent competition in 2023 and subsequently launched their debut single, “Destiny.” The 13-year-olds have since expressed aspirations for greater achievements, including participation in programs such as Britain’s Got Talent. Despite their ambitions for a significant career in music, they stated that performing for their church congregation continues to be a primary source of happiness. The Nyandoro twins, whose parents Roy and Faith serve as ministers at the Christ Life Church in Leicester, were raised within a “singing family” and have consistently participated in the choir. Over a year subsequent to their triumph, the sisters announced their preparations for a new single, which incorporates elements inspired by their church. Andrea commented, “It will be a bit more RnB and a bit of gospel too.” Their mentor on the program, Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am, bestowed upon the duo the moniker “The Wonder Twins.” Upon advancing to the final round, they performed Coldplay’s “A Sky Full of Stars,” which led to their championship. Andrea recalled, “At the time [after we won], things were just crazy.” She added, “Everyone kept telling us, ‘we saw you on TV’.” “We didn’t think we would win but we really wanted to go on the show.” The twins indicated that adapting to the stage lights and cameras required some time, but once accustomed, they “loved it.” Shanice described the experience, stating, “It was overwhelming and there was a lot going on but it was amazing.” Reflecting on their lives post-show, Shanice remarked, “Things have calmed down now but it’s very heart-warming to see that we’ve made an impact.” She continued, “Now we want to get on bigger platforms like Britain’s Got Talent.” Andrea further commented, “Having other people who have made an impact on us makes us want to do the same.” They attributed the most significant influence on them to their mother and the church. Mrs. Nyandoro stated that she consistently recognized the twins’ talent, yet initially felt they were not entirely prepared for The Voice Kids when they first expressed interest in applying. She recounted, “I told them to apply the next year but they insisted.” She elaborated, “We knew they had great voices but we just never thought it would turn out the way it turned out.” She concluded, “It was surreal, I think that’s the best word I can use.” As the girls anticipate their next major opportunity, they confirmed they are simultaneously pursuing other career aspirations. Shanice intends to become a journalist in the future, while Andrea aspires to be a lawyer. They quoted, “Our mum said there’s nothing stopping us from doing two things.” They affirmed, “We’ll always sing together.” For updates, follow BBC Leicester on Facebook, X, or Instagram.
