The head teacher of a primary school expressed that his belief in the local community was renewed following the rapid collection of £9,000 within days. This sum was intended to fund the replacement of a school minibus that had been stolen and subsequently torched. Paul Quinton, who leads Caroline Haslett Primary in Shenley Lodge, Milton Keynes, stated that the minibus was stolen the previous weekend. A parent later found it on Monday, having been stripped of parts and rendered unusable. Mr. Quinton noted that the cost to replace the vehicle would be three times the amount covered by insurance. Despite any gains the thieves might have made from taking the engine, Mr. Quinton affirmed that the positive sentiment experienced by him and the school, stemming from the funds collected and the display of community spirit, would “last a lot longer.” Mr. Quinton, whose institution serves 430 students, specified that the bus was stolen between 16:00 and 17:00 GMT on 16 November. He recounted receiving a call around 22:30 on Saturday, informing him that the school’s back door was open and the minibus was gone. Upon inspection, he discovered that the school fencing had been cut and there was “glass all over the playground where they kept the bus.” Surveillance cameras recorded the theft. “I was really angry on Saturday night, really upset,” he stated, adding that he felt “violated.” However, with the fundraising goal of £10,000 almost achieved, he commented, “The reaction has really restored my faith in our community.” Mr. Quinton extended his gratitude to all contributors. He remarked, “Whatever the thieves got from taking the bits they needed, that will be gone in a week or so, the good feeling and the way I feel and the way my school community feels will last a lot longer than that.” He concluded, “No matter the outcome, we’ve come out the winner.” Thames Valley Police confirmed that they had received a report regarding the theft and are currently conducting an investigation.
