The Metropolitan Police have reported that three individuals have been apprehended following an incident where a 22-year-old man had a bottle of corrosive liquid, believed to be an alkali, thrown at him during his visit to Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland. The man was subsequently transported to a hospital after being hit by the substance. Authorities were summoned to the Christmas market, situated within the central London park, around 20:00 GMT on Sunday, responding to notifications of an altercation involving two distinct groups of individuals. Currently, two men, aged 21 and 18, are being held in custody on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm. A 16-year-old boy, however, has been granted bail until February. The Metropolitan Police stated that the injuries sustained by the victim are not considered to be life-altering. Hyde Park Winter Wonderland confirmed that its medical personnel provided assistance and that the organization aided the police in making the arrests. A spokesperson for Hyde Park Winter Wonderland further commented: “The safety of our visitors and staff is our top priority and we do not tolerate any acts of violence.” The spokesperson detailed the security measures in place, stating: “We have robust security measures in place, including bag searches, CCTV, onsite security services, specially trained staff that flag suspicious activity, and extensive perimeter protection.” The spokesperson concluded by affirming: “We will continue to support the authorities with their investigation.”
