Jersey’s infrastructure minister has announced that railings are to be installed along the sea wall at La Haule, citing safety concerns. This proposal had previously been denied permission on three occasions by the planning department. Infrastructure Minister Constable Andy Jehan stated that he has since discovered the railings do not require installation permission. Environment and Planning Minister Deputy Steve Luce confirmed that the project would not necessitate a formal planning submission, allowing the infrastructure department to proceed with the work without an approved application. Public complaints had previously been voiced, suggesting that railings or a raised edge along that section of the wall would narrow the pathway and detract from the scenic view. Mr. Jehan highlighted a potential risk of individuals falling. He further indicated his intention to proceed with the plan, while committing to consultations with local residents and St Brelade’s constable regarding the design.
