An HGV operator has died following a collision on the A1. Cambridgeshire Police reported that the incident occurred at approximately 14:40 GMT in Water Newton, situated near Peterborough. The authorities indicated their belief that the HGV driver, a male in his 40s, lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle subsequently struck barriers before veering into an adjacent field. The southbound section of the A1 was anticipated to remain shut for a minimum of several hours. Police confirmed the vehicle involved was a tanker transporting liquid and stated that an investigation into the crash’s cause is currently underway. Detectives have issued an appeal for anyone who may have observed the HGV prior to the incident, or who possesses dashcam footage, to make contact with them.
