An MP has demanded that train operators take control and reduce service disruptions on the route between Shrewsbury and Birmingham. Shaun Davies, the Labour MP for Telford, described the termination of trains at Wolverhampton this week as “unacceptable.” He has formally expressed his concerns in a letter addressed to the executives at Transport for Wales (TfW). A spokesperson for the operator stated that the issues were a result of extensive maintenance examinations and repairs related to autumn conditions, and offered an apology to customers. Mr. Davies characterized the latest disruption as not an isolated incident, labeling it “part of a long-standing pattern of unreliable and inadequate rail services” affecting his constituency. He elaborated, saying, “Issues such as frequent delays, cancellations, and overcrowded trains have been consistently reported causing frustration and hardship for daily commuters.” He concluded by requesting, “I request a detailed plan outlining the steps that will be taken to resolve the current disruptions and prevent similar occurrences in the future and an urgent meeting.” A TfW spokesperson explained, “The problems we’ve seen on the Cambrian line in recent weeks are as a result of a number of trains undergoing heavy maintenance exams and repairs for autumn related defects as well as two units out of service following the incident at Talerddig.” This refers to a collision on 21 October near Llanbrynmair, Powys, where a train traveling from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth crashed into a stationary train. The statement from TfW continued, outlining, “As such we’ve been forced to cancel some services and replace them with road transport. “To give customers more certainty, for the remainder of the week, our Birmingham International services will be terminating at Wolverhampton, with tickets for onward travel accepted on all other operators including the Midland Metro.“We would like to apologise to all affected customers.” Post navigation Mid South West Growth Deal Officially Signed Trump announces plans for immediate tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China
