A clean-up initiative resulted in the collection of over 12 tonnes (12,000kg) of refuse from a major thoroughfare. Warwick District Council reported that this discarded material was retrieved from an 18km (11 mile) section of the A46, encompassing the central reservation and lay-bys, situated between Coventry and Stratford-upon-Avon. The operation spanned 10 nights during October. The council further noted that the volume of waste gathered represented a 3,000kg decrease compared to the quantity collected during the corresponding period in the previous year. Despite this reduction, a spokesperson characterized the effort as a “wholly unnecessary exercise,” emphasizing that motorists have the option to dispose of their waste at home instead of littering. To facilitate the work and reroute vehicles, a rolling lane closure was implemented for the duration of the operation. Contractors are responsible for cleaning this 18km segment of the road biannually. Information regarding BBC Coventry & Warwickshire is available on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram.
