The Brighton & Hove City Council is implementing a £1 limit on fares for “short single journeys” within the city. This fare cap, effective from December 1, will remain active until January 31, and includes participation from local bus operators. According to the council, funding from its Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) is being utilized to facilitate more affordable travel for residents during the Christmas period. Passengers can access this offer either by using tap-on-tap-off systems (where available from the operator) or by making a direct payment to the driver via contactless card or cash upon boarding the bus. Trevor Muten, the council’s cabinet member responsible for transport, commented: “I’m so pleased we’re able to use money from our Bus Service Improvement Plan to fund this offer, which will make a big difference throughout December and January, which is always an expensive time of year.” To determine the destinations accessible for £1, passengers are advised to consult the websites of their respective local bus operators.
