Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has stated that the team must “break that cycle” of ceding control to opposing teams, ahead of their Sunday match against London rivals Chelsea. This follows Spurs’ third defeat in their last six matches, which occurred on Thursday evening at Bournemouth, drawing criticism from their travelling supporters both during and after the game. Postecoglou elaborated on the team’s recurring issue, stating, “The disappointment was there was a repeat of the cycle of us going into games, starting well enough but then allowing the opposition to get a grip on it by either conceding a sloppy goal – like we did last night – or not taking our opportunities.” Despite this, the Australian manager expressed confidence in his team’s ability to elevate their performance against the Blues. Chelsea currently holds the second position in the Premier League, eight places higher than 10th-placed Tottenham as they head into the weekend. Postecoglou reiterated, “We need to break that cycle, irrespective of where we are at at the moment.” He acknowledged the team’s strong performances against high-ranking teams like [Manchester] City, [Manchester] United, and [Aston] Villa, noting, “not just wins but played really well.” However, he emphasized that these past successes “doesn’t eliminate what happened last night. That still needs to be addressed. We will put that to one side and it is a big game on Sunday.” He further commented on their upcoming opponents, stating, “Chelsea are going really well, they are in a good space at the moment with a fairly healthy squad and in good form. Always a tough game against them but we are at home and we need to make sure we produce a performance like we have in the other games.” Post navigation Postecoglou’s Consistency Challenge Arteta Commends Arsenal’s Character and Jesus’s Hat-trick Following Crystal Palace Victory
