Police have reported that a man was transported to a hospital following an assault involving a hammer within his residence in Newry. The incident occurred in the Violet Hill Avenue vicinity of the city at approximately 20:00 BST on Wednesday, when the individual interrupted a burglary in progress. The victim recounted being assaulted by two male assailants, one of whom was armed with a machete-style knife in addition to a hammer, which both men reportedly wielded. The injuries sustained by the victim are not considered life-threatening. A 40-year-old male was apprehended in connection with the incident but has since been granted release on bail. The individual was taken into custody on suspicion of aggravated burglary, assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH), and possession of an offensive weapon with the intent to commit an indictable offence. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is proceeding with its investigation and has issued a call for any individuals with relevant information to contact them.
