A street has been shut to traffic in both directions after a blaze erupted at a property situated in a terraced row. The Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) responded to the incident at a structure on Northgate Street in Devizes around 03:11 GMT on Tuesday. According to the service, the flames had extended across the entire premises, encompassing a takeaway kebab establishment, and into the roof areas of adjacent structures. No casualties have been reported, and seven fire vehicles are still present at the location. The closure of Northgate Street spans the section between New Park Street and Market Place. Matt Skyme, Station Manager for Dorset and Wilts Fire Service, stated that combating the fire presented a “difficult job” because of numerous hotspots. He further explained, “We’ve had six fire engines and up to 30 firefighters fighting a blaze in a kebab house which is located in the middle which has spread to adjacent properties.” Mr. Skyme verified that the properties were unoccupied at the time the fire commenced. DWFRS indicated that an investigation into the origin and cause of the fire was underway.
