For the first time, a city is hosting its fireworks display in conjunction with a food and drink festival. Up to 35,000 attendees are anticipated to witness the Cumberland Council Fireshow, taking place later at Bitts Park, Carlisle. Additionally, the cathedral grounds will feature a two-day event, presenting 40 traders from Taste Cumbria and Carlisle Farmers Market. Anne Quilter of Cumberland Council commented that uniting these events would create “an explosive weekend of fun for all the family”. The Fireshow, which is scheduled to commence at 18:30 GMT, will include a central bonfire and more than 2,000 fireworks. While admission to the event is free, donations collected will be directed towards the Rotary in Carlisle, Pancreatic Cancer UK, and the Eden Valley Hospice. Stalls for the Food and Drink Festival will be operational from 10:00 on both Saturday and Sunday, and food and entertainment will also be provided in Castle Car Park for those attending the Fireshow.
