A former rugby league player and dedicated fundraiser is bringing his latest charitable endeavor to the Hull and East Yorkshire region. Kevin Sinfield is undertaking a seven-day run, covering 50km (31 miles) daily, with the goal of collecting funds for six motor neurone disease (MND) charities. The former Leeds Rhinos player’s fundraising efforts honor his friend and team-mate Rob Burrow, who passed away from MND in June. Additionally, the challenge will commemorate Adam Maher, a former Hull FC player who succumbed to the same disease in 2020. On 5 December, Mr. Sinfield’s route will symbolically unite Hull’s rugby clubs. He will complete the initial segment of his run wearing the black and white colors of Hull FC, then change into a red and white top, representing Hull KR. This marks his fifth consecutive annual challenge dedicated to the MND community, following the successful raising of nearly £10 million through his previous four events. Mr. Sinfield stated that he had desired to include Hull in his challenges for several years and expressed his pleasure at the opportunity to visit. He further commented: “Hull is a rugby-league-mad city and Hull FC and Rovers fans gave so much support to Rob throughout his battle with MND.” He continued, “We have many friends in the city and this is definitely one of the days we are very much looking forward to in this year’s challenge.” The run undertaken by Mr. Sinfield is scheduled to commence at Beverley Racecourse at 07:00 GMT, proceed through North Ferriby, and then arrive at the MKM Stadium in Hull. His planned course will lead him through Queen Victoria Square, culminating at Sewell Group Craven Park, the home ground of Hull KR, at approximately 1.30pm. Maher, an Australian native, played as a second-rower, making 100 appearances for FC from 2000 to 2003 and scoring 25 tries. In 2003, Maher was a member of the inaugural Hull team to compete at the MKM Stadium, subsequently retiring at the conclusion of that season. The current year’s challenge is promoted with the tagline “Running Home For Christmas,” reflecting that its final day will conclude in Mr. Sinfield’s hometown region of Saddleworth.
