Gardaí (Irish police) have released a woman without charge following her arrest on suspicion of the murder of Kyran Durnin. She had been questioned at a Garda station situated in the east of the Republic of Ireland. Kyran, who was six years old when he was last observed alive, was reported missing from his residence in Drogheda, County Louth, in August. In October, Gardaí initiated a murder investigation, stating their approach was to consider Kyran as missing and presumed deceased. Irish broadcaster RTÉ News reported that the arrested woman, believed to be in her twenties, had spent a period abroad but was apprehended in Ireland. Despite the missing person inquiry commencing in August, detectives suspect Kyran may have been killed over two years prior. In 2022, Kyran was a pupil at the national [primary] school near his home in Dundalk. It is understood that authorities were informed he would be relocating to Northern Ireland to attend a new school in Newry. School officials in Dundalk, where Kyran resided with his mother, were reportedly told at the conclusion of the 2022 summer term that he would be enrolling in a school across the border; however, that claim was not confirmed.
