An additional demolition application has been filed for an industrial estate, forming part of a city centre revitalization project. Specifically, Sunderland City Council’s planning department has received a proposal to demolish a single-storey garage located within the Sheepfolds Industrial Estate. The council has granted several demolition approvals in recent months, consistent with broader development plans for the vicinity. The area has already seen the opening of the Sheepfolds Stables hospitality venue, and future plans include extensive public realm improvements alongside a new housing development. The Grade II listed Sheepfolds structure, erected in 1883, historically accommodated working horses for the North East Railway Company. Leaders at the council aim to connect this area and the Stadium of Light with the former Vaux brewery site through the construction of a new bridge spanning the River Wear. Previous demolition proposals have encompassed factory units, a former fish and chip shop, and structures previously associated with the printing company Edward Thompson. The decision regarding this most recent proposal, situated at Wilson Street North, will be made by council planning officers within the upcoming weeks. The Local Democracy Reporting Service indicates that demolition is slated to commence on 1 January and is expected to conclude in approximately one month.
